Lesson 6: School Life in Japan

This week in Japanese class, students are learning about School Life in Japan. They are comparing their prior knowledge with what they learn by reading a “Letter Home From Japan”. Which of these Japan School Life questions do you know the answer to? 1) What month does school start? 2) Do Japanese students wear uniforms? 3) Do most girls have pierced or unpierced ears? 4) What do Japanese students do with their shoes before entering school? 5) How many students does a typical Japanese classroom have? 6) Almost every student goes where right after school? 7) What are some typical martial arts clubs in Japanese schools? 8) What is a cram school? 9) What do Japanese students have to do to help their school every day? 1. April 2. Uniform 3. Unpierced 4. Take them off and put them in a locker. They wear “indoor” shoes in the school building. 5. About 40 6. After-school club (even in junior high school) 7. Kendo, judo, karate 8. A night school for extra studying. Students typically go two nights per week 9. Clean it!
